The 37signals Cookie Philosophy

37Signals Cookie Philosophy

This morning I read a post on Reddit titled “Open Source. You’re doing it right!” The post linked to a couple photos on imgur of a bag of White Wings cookies, where they placed their own cookie recipe right on the side of the bag. This got me thinking how perfect this mindset is for a company, & especially a startup. White Wings knows the secret for their cookies isn’t the recipe itself. Anyone can bake a good cookie, but it’s all about how you market & sell that cookie to your customers. If you’ve read anything by Fried or 37signals then you know their is nothing magic about what they do either. 37signals makes clean, simple products that are easy to use & customer friendly. Most of Fried’s advice to fellow startups & entrepreneurs is aimed at stripping down their company to the basics, but my favorite topic for Fried are ‘ideas’. Ideas are complete shit. Everyone has them, but what makes the difference is the person who actually follows through. That’s why I’m confident that if Jason Fried ever does start his own cookie business, he’ll give away the recipe too.

Welcome to the second episode of InsightIntell. In this episode Case Morton and Brad Chmielewski discuss QR codes and augmented reality. QR codes were incredibly popular in 2011 and it seems that augmented reality is going to be a hot topic in 2012. There are different ways brands have been successful using both QR codes and augmented reality but the issue is still making sure your audience understands what they are. Thanks for joining us for the second episode and let us know if there is anything you’d like us to talk about or questions you might have.
